I first came to Mexico from Seattle in the Spring of 2005 to work as a writer and creative consultant for a feature film project about the first official World Citizen. (See One Films on my Links page). Since that time, I've fallen in love with this community and this place and have decided to make it my home.
I've always loved working with computers. Believe it or not, I used to actually create Excel spreadsheets in my spare time - for FUN! Now if that's not being a Geek, I don't know what is.
Over the years I've worked several jobs, from Hotel Night Auditor to Marketing & Development to Human Resources. I never had any formal training in computers, but at every job I've ever had, when ever something went wrong with someone's computer, they would often call me because they knew I could probably figure out the problem and fix it faster than the company's own IT department.
I first discovered I loved teaching when I worked as a Benefits Specialist at the University of Washington. Part of my job was to give weekly benefits orientations to new employees. I enjoyed the challenge of taking a painfully boring subject like employee benefits and making it interesting and relevant to the people in the class. Who ever knew talking about life insurance could be so much fun?
When I first moved to Mexico, I hardly knew any Spanish. Though my mother is Mexican, my father is not and so I never learned it growing up. Except a lot of swear words. Shortly after I moved here, there was a need for someone to teach a volunteer Spanish class in the neighborhood. Knowing that the best way to learn anything is to teach it, and given my love of teaching, I stepped up and accepted the offer.
Besides being a computer geek and a Spanish teacher, I am also a certified Hypnotherapist, NLP Master Practitioner, and an attuned Reiki Practitioner Level II. So maybe after I get your computer to stop smoking, I can help you do the same! I've even used a little Reiki healing energy on my computer and voila! It worked! Qien sabe?
In my spare time I volunteer with a local charity known as BECA that raises money to give scholarships to children in La Mision. I also volunteer with the Rosarito Theatre Guild and am a new member of the United Society of Baja California.
